The Blue Whale Constant Current Grit Station is a superfine mechanical bar screen
with 1mm - 5mm (0.03" - 0.25") openings combined with unique automatically adjusting
grit classifier. The Constant Current Grit System automatically adjusts its weir height
to accommodate changes in flowrate through the settling chamber unlike standard
grit classifiers which do not account for changes in flowrate. Changing the weir height keeps
the current flowrate in the settling chamber constant and hence the name Constant Current
Grit Station
The accepted flow rate for optimal grit settling without sedimentation of
mud or organics is 1 foot per second. However at off peak hours the flow rate can drop
to between 1/3 to 1/10 of this flowrate. This low flow allows mud and organics to settle
along with the grit. Over time as any operator knows this reduces the efficiency of the
grit settling system and can require expensive cleaning out the grit chamber.
